Mr. David F. Semones is currently in his seventeenth year of teaching and in his ninth year as Director of Bands at Tennessee High School in Bristol. His duties are directing the marching band, symphonic band, jazz ensemble, and various chamber groups. He also teaches introductory music theory and AP music theory. His musical expertise is in adjudicating, conducting, drum major, drill-writing, arranging, and saxophone performance.

Before becoming the Director of Bands at THS, Mr. Semones was the band director at Vance Middle School (Bristol) from 2010-2013. From 2005-2010, he was the Director of Bands at Patrick Henry High School and the co-director at Glade Spring Middle School (VA). He began his teaching career as an interim band director in Wise County, VA in 2005.

Marching and concert bands under his leadership have consistently earned superior ratings and first place awards. At Patrick Henry, his band earned a Virginia Honor Band title, being only the fourth time in the school’s history; they were also honored as a Blue Ribbon School for music education twice. He was the Patrick Henry High School "Teacher of the Year" in his second year teaching, and again at Tennessee High School in 2018/19. Mr. Semones has taken his bands to perform across the country including the Camping World Bowl Game, Universal Studios Holiday Parade, the Statue of Liberty, Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Atlanta St. Patrick's Day Parade, Sea World, and Disneyworld. Since Mr. Semones' appointment at THS, the band has placed high at each marching competition, earned superior ratings at concert festival, and has been awarded the Tennessee Bandmasters Association's Sweepstakes Award twice.

In 2004, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Music. He is currently pursuing his M.M. in Wind Conducting from Messiah University (Mechanicsburg, PA). While at ETSU, Mr. Semones was the director of the basketball pep band for one year and drum major of the Marching Bucs for two.  He was published in the August 2013 edition of The Instrumentalist with his article, “Making the Most of Drum Majors.”  He is a member of NAfME, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, NEA, TMEA, ETSBOA, and the Tennessee Bandmasters Association. Mr. Semones is actively sought after as a clinician, adjudicator, music arranger, and drill-designer throughout Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. When Mr. Semones is not teaching, he is spending time with his wife, son, and daughter – Colleen, Miles, and Harper.
